Rights of the People by Bill Tufts

“Rights of the People” by Bill Tufts Bethel, Vt.

The Second Amendment to our Constitution has nothing to do with hunting, or sportsmen, or back yard gun ranges. It has to do with freedom for the citizens and RIGHTS specifically stated as a part of our U.S. Constitution, for the defense of free men and women to protect themselves against violators of the Constitution, government tyranny, and criminals, and such.

This is a very important people’s right, which we call the Second Amendment to our Constitution for it clearly and concisely states, “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

In the language of the time of our Founders, “militia” meant the whole body of the people, as noted by Richard Lee in 1787: “A militia when properly formed are in fact the people themselves … and include … all men capable of bearing arms.” And, “being necessary to the security of a free State” meant that the right of the people to bear arms was, and remains, the ultimate barrier to government tyranny.

In the words of our Constitution’s principal author, James Madison, “The ultimate authority … resides in the people alone. … The advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation … forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition.” (Federalist No. 46)

“A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.” – George Washington
The wise and well educated men who had read and studied world history knew that forming a Republic with a written constitution would restrain government from becoming absolute, and this constitution allowed men and women to enjoy more freedom than ever before, for they would be free to achieve success and happiness in life, regardless of whether they were born into this world rich or poor. They believed that all men and women were created equal by their Creator. Over the years we have left our Republic and turned more toward a Democracy and the concept of a benevolent Social government, sometimes called a “Nanny state”, where government seizes more power and higher taxes to bribe other nations of the world and provide increasingly needed help for the citizens, now often referred to as Sheeple. Like in previously failed governments of the world our citizens increasingly need and ask for more food, shelter, heat, medical care, and every possible want, which now includes free cell phones.

Over the recent decades crime pays and few are caught and given the death penalty, and many are then released to threaten good citizens once more. Why isn’t there a law against illegal drugs or illegal aliens?

Unfortunately, banning firearms from private ownership would do little to alleviate violent crime. Violent offenders who commit these crimes are already breaking the law, and there will always be an underground market for guns, just like with drugs, even if they are made illegal to own. We must remember that the founding fathers of the United States wrote the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights as a countermeasure to the rise of a tyrannical government. What part of “shall not be infringed” do you not understand?
The man that attacked the midnight showing of Batman didn’t attack just any theater. There were about ten to choose from. He didn’t attack the closest. It wasn’t about biggest or smallest. He attacked the one that was posted NO GUNS ALLOWED.

In the last decade we have lost other Citizen Rights Amendments to our Constitution. There is no such thing as gun control, for it is forbidden by the Second Amendment. Many well-meaning citizens either do not know history or have forgotten it. Do you recall that the Serfs of the Middle Ages were not allowed to have knowledge of or use weapons. The nobles and royalty controlled the weapons and controlled the people.

World history has shown us many times, that Arms registration, no matter how limited,, always leads to Arms confiscation by government tyrants, who then fully control the people with their false promise of safety. (Ask New Orleans registered gun owners about the consequences of gun confiscation from law-abiding citizens in the chaos after Hurricane Katrina.) Perhaps, the Tv. News did not tell you about the hundreds of women raped and citizens murdered and left lying in the streets due to being disarmed by the U.S. military who were sent in to HELP!!!

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Over the past several decades, the children and citizens of what is left of our Republic have been conditioned that guns are bad by those in control. You may have noticed that all hunting and gun magazines have been removed from the public libraries, hospitals, medical clinics, and etc., as part of this indoctrination. When the Second Bill of Rights disappears with registration nibbles and more, so goes your freedom as you head toward the F.E.M.A. barbed wire prison camps, already constructed on U. S. government land, just waiting for you, as in the movie “Schindler’s List”.

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms … disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes … Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” ~Thomas Jefferson~

If you are not a gun owner, that’s OK. But I suggest you thank every gun owner you know, because in states with few gun restrictions, such as Vermont, crime is lower and violent offenders can’t tell which homes have armed occupants and which don’t. And incarcerated offenders report that the number-one factor in choosing a victim is the ability of the victim to defend themselves.

As violent law breakers are seldom truly punished, violence continues to increase, lawful citizens need the Second Amendment more than ever, for self protection alone, which is why millions of honest men and women own ARMS of the best kind available. After all the more than 10,000 vicious gangs now in our country, own and will be using the best weapons that drug money can buy, and having an electric self barking doggie in your home folks is not going to deter them . Also, remember that the police gather evidence after the crime, and they are not paid to sit on your front porch and guard you all night, for only the rich and powerful, who would disarm you, have such body guards to protect themselves and their families.
Sincerely,
Bill Tufts
